Use the following format in order to outline a five paragraph essay examining the break that modern philosophy makes with the Ancients. Remember, you do NOT have to write the essay, but you do have to write the opening sentence, your thesis, the topic sentence for each body paragraph, the specifics and supporting examples, and a concluding paragraph. Do not forget that you MUST use evidence from BOTH the modern text that you examined AND Plato's REPUBLIC; in other words, you must compare and contrast Plato with the modern philosopher that you chose to complete this assignment.

THE SCREAM, by Edvard Munch, 1893. An existentialist work capturing the possible horrors of modernity. This work is a perfect artistic forshadowing of the failure (?) of the modern project.
